DUI in Los Angeles

What to do if you get a DUI in Los Angeles, California

If you get arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles, California the first thing you will want to do is find and hire an attorney that specializes in DUI cases in the Los Angeles area, such as Los Angeles DUI attorney Craig Renetzky.

Once you arrive at the police station after being arrested for driving under the influence in LA, the officer must inform you of your choice between a breath test or a blood test. If you choose the breath test, two samples must be taken two minutes apart. The blood tests can be administered at the police station, a nearby medical facility, or a third party may come to give the test.

Even if you are not informed of your choices, you will face stronger penalties if you refuse the tests. Speak with your DUI Attorney for further information on the potential flaws of the different DUI alcohol tests.

You will lose your license if one of the following things occurs.
1. You take the breath test and fail with a result of .08% or higher.
2. You opt for a blood test that is usually tested at a crime lab a few days later.
3. You refuse to take both the blood and breath tests.

It is extremely important that your DUI Attorney contacts the local DMV’s Driver Safety Office to arrange an administrative license suspension hearing; this call must be made within 10 calendar days from the time of  your arrest or you will have forfeited your right to a hearing and the option of having the suspension set aside.
